Covering Table Edges

As grownups, even we have fallen victim to the shin gouging of the coffee table. Babies are just as susceptible, only their heads are at risk more than their shins. This risk is especially hazardous to babies just learning to get around.

Buying and installing plastic or rubber edging on the coffee table will help protect your little one’s head from injury. Also, if you have some tape laying around, it can be used as a quick fix on areas where your baby can reach.

Cover Exposed Power Outlets

An exceptionally dangerous hazard in the home is the exposed electrical socket. Babies and just beginning to explore their world and everything around them is fair game. Putting anything into an electrical outlet can cause shorts, electrocution and even fires.

As a parent you can purchase outlet covers from your local store and put them in all outlets that aren’t being used- even behind furniture.

Babies that are just beginning to get around see the world as one giant open field-knife filled kitchens, dangerous staircases, and sewing rooms are perfect examples of areas that are off limits. Installing baby gates at the top and bottom of stairways and in the doorways to off-limit rooms can help keep your baby where you want them- safe.

Placing a baby safe gate here and there around your house can also help corral baby and keep them where you can always see them.

Locking Cupboards

Most adults keep their hazardous cleaning materials, rat catching traps and other odds and ends in the lower cupboards of the kitchen or bathroom. If that is the case in your house, you need to consider purchasing and using baby proof locks on all lower cabinets. These can be found in any store.

Doing these simple things will allow you to feel that your children are indeed safe and secure in your home.
