Poppy Pod Teas Anyone?

by Rose Hillton

The poppy pod tea is not grandmothers ordinary breakfast beverage. Hardly a number of people even drink this concoction along with their favorite pastries. However, despite the controversies hounding it, many still take it regularly for all that makes it different from other beverages. Others say it is just as potentially dangerous as any other drug. However, others also say it just as safe as coffee unless it is taken in large amounts.

Being an offshoot of the notorious opium poppy, the poppy pod tea is automatically an issue for dispute. Advocates claim that it should be drank for therapeutic worth. Antagonists, meanwhile, highlight its being addictive and lethal when taken liberally. Most often, however, judgment on the poppy pod tea is one-sidedly based on the preconception that it is the infamous heroins next of kin. That alone should scare the potential drinker.

Nature has offered an effective painkiller in brewed dried poppy pods. Before, when synthetic drugs were not a fad, the poppy pod was taken for healing purposes. During the boom of opium poppy plantations, in the 19th century, many celebrated individuals from different fields of interest took it in a regular basis. People also drank it to relieve them of their depression and other mental-related irregularities. Nowadays, with chemically infused medical drugs flooding the market, including those with more dangerous side-effects, the poppy pod tea may even provide the safer substitute.

Different kinds of poppies possess an amount of psychoactive alkaloids. However, the opium poppy has been proven to have the most of these narcotic elements, which make its poppy seeds more suitable for tea making. Morphine, papaverine, thebein, and codeine, which are alkaloids found in dried poppy seeds also cause light-headedness, pleasurable sensations, and drowsiness. For this matter, individuals with serious stress and depression have used opium poppies. Opium has been said to relieve them from insomnia and lack of appetite. It is not surprising that many renowned people with stressful occupations like national leaders and brilliant scientists take poppy pod tea regularly.

For anyone who has dried poppy pods, making a poppy pod tea is quite easy. It is just pounding or grinding poppy pods into the minutest possible so it can easily be dissolved in boiling water. The seeds are first removed then the poppy pods are ground. For first-timers, it is suggested that a small amount should do. Then dissolve the ground poppy pods in boiling water. Bring the mixture of water and pods to boil for another five minutes. Then pour it to a cup through a filter made from a t-shirt cloth, to keep off the granules of pod.

It is true, though, that you can get addicted to poppy pod teas. This may even kill you if you drink more than your body can actually handle. Practicing a good amount of self-regulation will help you avoid the risks. Drinking too many may only give you the chances that you will no longer drink at all, not even water.
