Many people who are addicted to drugs go into rehab to kick the habit and live a drug free life. There are different types of rehab and one which is growing in popularity is the holistic drug rehab. So what exactly happens to a person in this type of rehab?

Holistic drug rehab takes a close look at the person in his or her entirety. It makes them look at and treat their spirit, their mind and of course their body. Doing this takes many different forms as the various treatments show.

Natural detox is one of the first parts of holistic rehabilitation. This is to get rid of the toxins left by drugs in the body as these are what causes the cravings. Treatment of this kind is aimed at the body and a person will alter their diet and possibly take vitamins and supplements.

After this the person will then be encouraged to attend therapy sessions to talk about their addiction and get to the root cause. These therapy sessions can be individual with a counselor or in a group setting. Here the persons mind is being treated.

The person will also be encouraged to take up a new pastime which will help them to relax and unwind. Many people choose to look at meditation or yoga, or both. Doing this helps the person to become more positive and focused on their recovery. Here the spirit is being treated.

In addition to these stages people in this type of holistic rehab will be given advice on exercise and nutrition. Both of these things play a large role in successful recovery and give the addict something to focus on. They also work to improve the person’s overall health with is also a plus point.

Many people during holistic rehab also turn towards alternative medicines and treatments to help them. Chinese medicine and acupuncture are two such methods which can be really beneficial to a person recovering from drug addiction.

This was just a brief snapshot into the what goes on in holistic drug rehab, but as you can see a lot goes on. A person is treated as an entire being and not just as an addict and this has some amazing results. They will leave rehab feeling energized and with the skills to continue the good work back at home.
